How to Play Tennis Video TIP:  5 Different Overheads

In this video clip you will see 5 different overheads in one sequence. This is a great example of why it takes longer to excel at net play with the variety of shots that are needed to become consistent.

Here 4 out of the 5 shots are “over head”. The third shot is a swinging volley (a.k.a. “bollo” swing for advanced players).

Here are the five overheads in sequence:

1. Easy “bunny” overhead
2. High Volley
3. “Bollo Swing”
4. Step Back Load Overhead
5. Bounce Smash

You will notice with each shot how controlled and powerful the shots are. Also notice the wide stance and slightly bent knees so the player can adjust quickly to adapt to each variety of overhead while the ball is in flight. The “bollo swing” shot is the only stroke that he lets the ball drop bellow his head.

Bonus if you can tell us me this pro player is warming up in Delray Beach, Fla. It was a practice session I did not catch his name when I shot this footage.

For optimum instruction utilize the Tennis TIP media player slide bar and Pause/ Play Button for interactive slow motion analysis.
