NYC and Miami Tennis Lesson Updates / Australian Open 2012
Dear TennisTIP Members:
170 beats per minute + 75 degrees Fahrenheit + 1 opponent + 2 spectators + 7 used Gatorade bottles = ?
On a warm and sunny day in S. Florida tennis tournament I’m in the midst of a semi-final match hoping that my max heart rate will settle on my 25 second break between points. We are in the 3rd hour of this tussle. I’m feeling self-satisfaction in that my recovery is brisk and my heart rate is lowering into productive range in the 140s. I end up losing the match in 2.5 hours but I’m starting to see an equation in my conditioning that is satisfying. I sit down a few days later and watch the near 6-hour match between Nadal and Djokovic in the Australian Open final and understand their pain and their motive (prize money, Grand Slam fame and fan adoration not withstanding).
As participants all we can control is our own effort and the satisfaction that comes from immersing oneself in the process. Everything else is out of our control. Whatever your personal equation I hope your results have the satisfaction and fulfillment of a legendary Australian Open Final or a nondescript local tennis tournament.
